Week 1 Blog
Introduction
Hello everybody! Welcome to my blog! I live in Claremore with my husband, our two dogs, Sandie and Theo, and our two cats, Princess and Winston. I love hanging around snuggling my sweet animals, as well as baking, and recently have found a new interest in running 5K’s. I am currently a Kindergarten teacher at Claremont Elementary. I am on the countdown of nine days left of this school year and I am ready for summer! I have taught kindergarten for two years now and will continue next year, as for the future I am open to whatever doors open with opportunities. I would love to possibly teach first grade, or go into a position of working directly in reading intervention with elementary age students. I found that I loved working with specific reading intervention and struggling readers through doing tutoring and summer school through my district and experiencing first hand the successes and hard work of students who are struggling readers.
ISTE Standards Connected to Kindergarten
In standard 1.1.c. of the ISTE standards it states that students will use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways (International Society for Technology in Education 2025). I have chosen to focus on Kindergarten as that is my current grade level I teach. As young learners they are consistently being introduced to new information, and as a teacher I am always creating and looking for different ways to increase student engagement. The kindergarten math standard K.GM.2.3 addresses the comparison of objects and shared attributes (Mathematics – oklahoma.gov 2022). This can relate to ISTE standard 1.1.c. on a whole group and independent work level, during a whole group lesson the Promethean board can be used to project a group of shapes that are different colors and asking them to sort them into sets first using the shape attribute and then using the color attribute. Then there will be a few numbers and letters presented and students will be asked to help sort them. The students will then demonstrate their own understanding by taking turns to come up and write either a letter or number on the board in the correct set. iPads are great tools that are able to provide independent practice for students that can also provide immediate feedback on their learning activities. Using the online game Zoe’s Pet Shelter on the Sesame Street website students can play this game independently or with a partner. In this game there are dogs that have different attributes such as height, color, hair style, features, posing, or length. Students go through different levels sorting various animals into different categories and if it is not correct the game sends a sound letting them know that it is not correct. This game is engaging, provides an opportunity for demonstrating their own knowledge, and receives feedback (Sesame Street 2025).
Triple E Framework Connection
Professor Liz Kolb developed the Triple E framework that focuses on students using different technology in ways to engage, enhance, and extend their learning. This framework was designed so that educators could easily evaluate how tools met learning goals and what impact they had on learning experiences and learning outcomes (Kolb, 2020). This lesson can be connected to all three components of the framework. Students will want to interact and get hands on with their learning using the whiteboard and playing the game on their iPad and they are motivated to win so they are engaged with their learning. Students learning is enhanced by showing multiple ways to sort similar objects and creating different ways and their own objects that fit into the categories. The lesson extends the students learning by allowing them to create their own categories and create their own items to fit into the categories. They are connecting the current math skill they are working on to literacy and math concepts that they have already learned. Using these tools to evaluate the lesson shows that students learning is transformed by using technology in the lesson.

Great stuff! The activity definitely uses technology in a fun and engaging way that is appropriate for the age group that you teach. Visuals will also help students comprehend similarities between items once grouped together.
